Chelsea Physic Garden

The Chelsea Physic Garden was founded in 1673 by the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries for its apprentices to study the medicinal qualities of plants, and it became one of the most important centres of botany and plant exchange in the world. As the second oldest botanical garden in Britain the garden has developed a major role in public education focusing on the renewed interest in natural medicine, and the Garden of World Medicine is Britain’s first garden of ethnobotany, and is laid out together with a new Pharmaceutical Garden. Today, as an independent charity the garden relies on the support of visitors and friends to help protect and nurture the Garden for future generations.
